quaint municipality to a thriving city, exploring how this UNESCO World Heritage site has embraced change without losing its cultural soul. Imagine walking down a narrow, cobblestone street in Vigan in the early 1900s. The air is filled with the
clip clop of horse drawn kalesas, the smell of sizzling empanada wafts through the air, and the grand ancestral homes stand tall, telling stories of the town’s rich Spanish heritage. Before becoming a city in 2001, Vigan was a charming municipality known for its colonial architecture and bustling local trade. Even back then, Vigan was already a hidden gem, attracting visitors eager to experience its cultural treasures.


At its heart, Vigan was a center of small scale agriculture and craftsmanship, with artisans


making burnay jars, weaving abel fabrics, and crafting intricate wooden furniture. These traditions continue today, shaping the identity of Vigan’s people. In 2001, Vigan was officially declared a city under Republic Act No. 8988. This was a turning point one that opened doors to economic growth, better infrastructure, and an influx of tourists. But

while Vigan embraced modernization, it never lost sight of its roots. The UNESCO World Heritage status, granted in 1999, helped solidify the city’s commitment to preserving its cultural identity. Today, Vigan stands as a living blend of old and new. Imagine strolling down Calle Crisologo, where ancestral houses sit side-by-side with modern cafes and boutiques. Learning is a choice. Either a peaceful battle or a tough one.

For the second quarter, I discovered more about myself and my classmates, especially in terms of our strengths and the areas where we struggle in school. While I didn’t master time management, I still managed to accomplish my tasks fairly well (or so I believe). I faced challenges in understanding lessons in math and basic electronics, but I found our ICT lessons relatively easy, particularly the activities we completed. So far, ICT has been my best-performing subject, with my highest score yet. After lunch, I often reflect on how much I enjoy attending our ICT class. Brainstorming Our research journey started with brainstorming ideas and assigning tasks. We carefully planned our methodology to ensure a smooth process.   Visiting the community We visited the town of Bulala, where we observed and interacted with the locals, learning about the art of burnay-making and its role in their livelihood. Documentation We documented every step of the burnay-making process to analyze its significance in local heritage and economy. Interviewing Interviewing the community members gave us valuable insights into their craft, challenges, and how burnay contributes to their economy and culture.   Assignment of Tasks          We divided the parts and wrote the research, to make ourworks easier and faster. After all of these, we presented our output last February 1, 2025. P.S: The title of this thematic is not our title in our research, i is just my way to engage audience.<3
